First you select a finger and record the print.

Then you record a sequence of fingerprints.

There was user management.

System settings for access requirements.

User lists.

Ability to add a user.

Ability to manage fingerprints.

Including deleting them.

Pipa Biometric Security System

Sher Khan, an entrepreneur, patented a unique biometric security system that uses fingerprints in a sequence (like a PIN) to provide enhanced authentication for banking and high-security applications. I was engaged to lead the project, bringing together a team of offshore programmers and handling all aspects of system analysis, design, and development to bring this innovative vision to life.

Project Overview

My role began with gathering requirements, conducting a thorough analysis, and completing both system and database design. I then led a team of offshore developers through the coding process, conducting code reviews, advising on coding strategies, and ensuring clear, effective communication. When the project encountered challenges, I took charge of completing the system, ensuring a polished and fully functional end product.

The Vault, as we called the system, was hosted on a dedicated Unix server, which I was responsible for putting together, featuring a Java-based architecture with JBoss as the application server, a NetBeans Swing application for the front end, and MySQL or Oracle at the backend. The system allows fingerprints to be recorded via an external device, manages user administration, and enables users to authenticate with a unique fingerprint sequence.

Technical Implementation

To support the team’s development, I set up the project environment with SVN for version control and configured NetBeans as the primary IDE. The project stack included:

  • Java (Swing) for the front-end application,
  • JBoss for the middleware,
  • MySQL/Oracle for database management,
  • JSP interface for administration tasks,
  • And additional technologies like JUnit, EJBs, Hibernate, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

From start to finish, I ensured a robust and well-integrated solution that met all security and usability requirements, making Sher Khan’s patented security system a reality.

All that remains for me to say is a big THANK YOU for all you have done for me. Your support and advice over the years is deeply appreciated. I have never met you face to face and yet I trust your honesty and integrity completely.
